Nike’s Big Bubble initiative in the form of the Air Max 1 ’86 launched in March of this year, retelling the story of an earlier sample version of the iconic visible-Air running shoe. In addition to the OG “Sport Red” colorway, Nike dropped a quartet of styles in limited quantity, further whetting the appetites of Air Max fans globally.
Today, a first look at yet another creation comes forward, clad with the textured Safari pattern around the mudguard. This detail is also closely tied to the Air Max 1’s chief architect Tinker Hatfield; according to Tinker, he concocted the famed “Safari” print when he noticed an ostrich-skin couch at a furniture store.
Interestingly enough, the style code that is presumed to be attached to this sneaker (based on the shoebox in the photo) is tied to the recently released “Light Armory Blue” pair. This suggests that this “Blue Safari” iteration is once again a limited-issue collaboration, similar to how the Kids Of Immigrants doctored up the “Smokey Mauve” pair and individually numbered them to 1,986 pairs. How this pair differs, outside of the obvious Safari pattern, is that the midsole is now tinted yellow and an artistic “AIR” sits right above the visible window.
Additional information regarding this upcoming release is likely to surface soon, so stay tuned for updates. An official release is scheduled for June 16th ($170) at the retailers listed below.
