Regardless of how innovative any given design is, the community at large is well read enough to cite various touchstones at the drop of a hat. While we’ve personally learned to take some of those arguments with a grain of salt, sometimes things are simply too obvious not to point out, the case as adidas unveils the adidas adiMule.
Of course, the suede mule design at hand instantly recalls the Birkenstock Boston, a long-time favorite of the crunchy crowd that perhaps is the market the Three Stripes aims to tap into with this design. To be entirely fair, the adidas adiMule isn’t a direct rip-off; it’s of more simplistic hardware than the German design, eschewing the midfoot strap and recessed footbed. Despite that relatively lack of containment, adidas specifically calls out the adiMule’s capability for all-day wear. To befit that, a cork midsole and innovative traction pattern define the lower half of the silhouette, the latter comprised of a diamond traction pattern with cupped interruptions throughout.
