A staple of Nike SB‘s seasonal releases in the ’00s, the SB Air Trainer 1 has long been dormant, but now it’s set to make a return to market via a collaboration with Swedish skateboarding brand Polar Skate Co. The Nordic borders have opted to dress their take on the hybrid silhouette in white, black, and blue, using premium leathers and durable nubucks to ensure quality. The normal Nike hit on the forefoot strap is replaced with a Polar text logo, co-branded detailing appears on the tongue, and a white midsole/gum outsole combo completes the stylings. Frequently associated with the great Bo Jackson, the Air Trainer 1 was designed by none other than Tinker Hatfield, and was intended to be an all-around performance shoe, versatile enough for cross-training but durable enough for pickup basketball. That rugged-yet-adaptable nature lends itself well to skate, a culture that has a long history of co-opting other classic silhouettes like the Air Jordan 1 — which itself released in two special SB makeups earlier in May. Therefore, it only makes sense that with the resurgence of the Swoosh Brand’s skate subdivision the model will re-appear in kickflip-ready form this year. Grab a first look here, and expect the Polar x Nike SB Air Trainer 1 to release at select stockists on June 10th.
