Of archival DNA with more modern enhancements, adidas’ newly added Matchbreak Super continues to bolster the sub-label’s modern repertoire of silhouettes — a set of releases that have spanned collaborations with Mark Gonzales and the Beastie Boys only months prior. But now, in 2020, the brand is ostensibly highlighting performance alone, doing so by themselves with a keen attention to wearability. As such, much of the pair’s most exciting features lie low visually: these details, such as the seamless inner lining, the Adituff toe box, and the high foxing tape, only marginally alter the profile, yet in terms of effect, they offer a glove-like fit, low profile stance, and improved protection simultaneously. Aesthetically, a simple construction encases many of these improvements, proffering a two-part assortment of either a clean black with white accents or a brighter cream detailed with navy leather stripes. Nubuck seats the toe to a rounded shape, the lateral and medials dress layered by way of its transitioning paneling, and branding finishes strong with gold-adorned text. Grab a detailed look at both here and expect a release at adidas.com on January 30th.
