adidas‘ basketball history extends well-past signature sneaker lines for current ring-chasers Damian Lillard, James Harden, and Donovan Mitchell. And while the brand has been celebrating the new decade by outfitting the sport’s once-most-popular sneaker, the Superstar, it’s also reviving some hoops-ready models from the decades in-between. Case in point: the Top Ten 2000.
Originally worn by Kobe Bryant, the silhouette promoted The Three Stripes’ established EQT and farely-novel Feet You Wear lines. While bulky by modern performance-basketball footwear standards, the mid-cut sneaker delivered a much-more natural, flexible, and lower-to-the-ground feel than its contemporaries. As was the case in the late ’90s, the Top Ten 2000’s retro features a mixed-materials upper, with synthetic leather prominently running along the profiles. Branded elastic straps across the tongue work in-tandem with a notable lacing system for premier lockdown. Underfoot, injected EVA midsoles are complemented by an outsole laden with various herringbone-patterned zones. As the playful emblem on the heel pull tab suggests, this wavy, sectioned-off design has been inspired by the natural shape and curves of the human foot.
Official stateside adidas.com release details are still unknown, but this Top Ten 2000 launches in Japan on August 20th for the equivalent of $146 USD.
For more from The Three Stripes, the Gazelle OG returns on September 1st.
