Following the reveal of Donovan Mitchell‘s forthcoming DON Issue 2 “Day of the Dead” colorway last week, the adidas team has their eyes set on building upon their cultural-inspired footwear catalog with a two-piece set dedicated to the Far East. Incorporated into the adidas Forum, both the high-top and the low-top silhouettes, comes Chinese influence premised off of the historical game of Xiangi, a variation of Chinese chess.
Common design elements between both pairs are present through added straps that wrap across towards the top of the throat, in addition to nods to the strategic game applied to the tongues via chess-inspired imagery meant to communicate an aerial view of the board and its accompanying circle-shaped pieces. The heightened variation, while more minimally-styled in white leathers, bears striking accents of red liners/treading and gold collar/midsole molds reminiscent of China’s flag, in addition to gold-plated dubraes accessorized with Chinese lettering. Its sibling is one of more vibrant allure, as it possesses “Dark Green” leather overlays intricately styled with embroidered patterns, as well as crinkled, foil-like iridescent paneling inserted into the toe boxes, stripes, and heels for a visual element somewhat similar to the Concepts ZX 9000 Mylar Blanket colorway that dropped this year. Peep a closer look below, and not that they’ll be releasing overseas tomorrow. Sit tight for further word on their adidas.com release in the states.
