New Balance 1906R
The New Balance 1906R is a running lifestyle model that first debuted in 2009. Experiencing a less than spectacular initial run, the silhouette was shelved until re-emerging in 2022 with the “R” tag/subtitle, indicating remastered construction. The design of the 1906R simplified the sole unit, removing full length N-ergy gel and reducing its presence at the heel. As with many New Balance models, the silhouette gained extra buzz when Teddy Santis’ Aime Leon Dore label chose it for a collaborative capsule collection. The metallic overtones and neutral accents of that pair would go on to inform much of the general releases that brought back to consumers in earnest.
However, some of the most well-known pairs of the shoe like the three-pronged Action Bronson New Balance 1906R collection and Salehe Bembury New Balance “Heat Be Hot” go in a far more expressive direction with the model. The most recently announced on that front is the Jack Harlow New Balance 1906R, likely to command high demand upon release. These pairs opened up a far more vibrant lane for the archive offering, one that’s been explored with in-line drops that continue to dot the 2024 release slate.
Additionally, the success of the New Balance 1906R proper has led the Boston brand to iterate on its construction with a small handful of spin-off models. While we still await the debut of the New Balance 1906L loafer style, the “Tech Explosion” New Balance 1906A silhouette debuted on July 24th.
