adidas Superstars rode the feet of Run DMC to the heights of Air Jordans, Chuck Taylors and other seminal sneakers, but they did so almost exclusively in black. Around that same time, the first wave of hip-hop/b-boy culture was transitioning into a more commerically viable expression. B-boys loved the flash of gold and snakeskin, and now the set is complete.
Some twenty years after their 80’s heyday, adidas brings back the Superstar in a wicked red faux-lizard upper. It looks especially good with deep burgandy laces and brick red Stripes, but it’s not alone either. Along for the reptilian ride are the Campus and Stan Smith models. The opposite of real life, Stan Smith appears in all black save the white sole, while the Campus brings the whole theme together by mixing golden “skin” with tonal accents.
