Since the Dunk Contest, a controversial pair showed up on eBay and sold for an absurd amount, further increasing the buzz and the public outcry for a retail release.
It is unknown if Nike was planning a release from the start or if the overwhelmingly positive response simply made it a no-brainer. Was it marketing genius or just good old popular demand?
