If you describe yourself as the Average Joe, a quiet individual who chooses to blend in with the background and go by relatively unnoticed, the Reebok Zig Slash isn’t for you. Reebok’s Zig technology dropped earlier this year and was thrust into the pop-culture spotlight, as Reebok’s Marketing team chose some louder-than-life individuals like Chad Ochocinco and the Jersey Shore crew to push the product. But Reebok also makes it a point to remind us that the Reebok Zig is more than just a gimmick; they intended Zig for multi-purpose athletic use like running and cross-training, and now basketball can be added to the Zig repertoire.
The Reebok Zig Slash features the unforgettable Reebok Zig midsole with an equally flamboyant upper; the triangle tesselations on the upper should remind you of both the graphic seen on the Kobe V POP and Air Max Hyperize POP and the Nike Free Run upper. Zig has established itself as a Reebok product, but the company still pushes its name, planting a large Reebok logo on the upper and printing the company name on the inner sidewall of the shoe. If Reebok wants to compete with Nike and adidas, it’ll require an attack from a different vantage point, and different it surely is.
