5 Minutes with Carlos Boozer

With big name free agents like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Amar’e Stoudemire floating out there this summer, there wasn’t a whole lot of talk about where Carlos Boozer would land, but with the ability to put up 20/10 every night, Boozer may turn out to be one of the best signings of the NBA off-season. The Chicago Bulls were more than thrilled to welcome C-Booz into town and last Friday night, he was out enjoying his new city while acting as honorary commissioner for the Gatorade Replay game between Bloom and Brother Rice high schools. Sneaker News had a chance to catch up with Carlos for a few minutes to ask him some questions about sneakers, as well as his new team and city. Keep reading for our full 1 on 1 interview with Carlos Boozer after the jump.

Sneaker News: Hey Carlos. I’m here from Sneaker News, so that’s what we’re here to talk to you about today.

Carlos Boozer: Sneakers? Nice!

SN: Are you a sneakerhead?

CB: Yeah! Of course!

SN: What are your all-time favorites?

CB: Jordans.  Who’s isn’t? Jays all day!  I think everybody’s Jays.

SN: What’s your all-time favorite Jordan?

CB: Thirteens. Those are my favorite. I’m glad Jordan started coming back out with some more retros, but thirteens are my favorite.

SN: You’ve got a bunch of thirteens coming out this year, so keep an eye out for those.

CB: Yeah. The blue ones. I know.

SN: Jordan love aside, you’re a Nike guy. What’s it like growing up loving sneakers and now you have your name and number on a Nike shoe?

CB: When I was a kid I couldn’t afford sneakers. I was wearing the same pair for like three or four years. And now to have a bunch of sneakers, it’s a blessing to be honest with you.

SN: And not only do you have shoes now, but you have Nikes personalized just for you.

CB: It’s pretty cool to be able to have your name and number on your shoes and get whatever color you like and all that. Especially when you come from a place where you really couldn’t afford shoes growing up. Me and my brother had to share shoes for a little while.

SN: And now you get to share your shoes with the world on a whole other level.

CB: Yeah.

SN: Ok, to switch topics for a minute, what do you think of Chicago so far?

CB: Oh, I love Chicago man. I’m having a blast. I’m really embracing the city and having a good time. Just enjoying the city man. I’ve been watching the White Sox and the Cubs battle it out a little bit. I’m gonna go watch the Bears play this year. I’m gonna watch the Blackhawks. I’m looking forward to seeing us play this year too, so it’s gonna be fun. It’s gonna be a good year.

SN: Big difference from Utah I bet huh?

CB: It’s a very different city. Much bigger. A lot more to do here. Different people. A lot of fun.

SN: So what’s your prediction for your first year with the Bulls?

CB: I hope we can win it all. Our goal is to win a championship. Which is everybody’s goal. We’ll see how we do. I’m hoping we can win a championship this year.

SN: For what it’s worth, I think you guys got a shot. Thanks for the interview and good luck this year.

CB: Great interview man. Thanks.
