The Nike LeBron signature line made the jump from Zoom to Air Max in 2009 with the introduction of the Air Max LeBron VII, and although last year’s Zoom Soldier IV features visible Max Air, it didn’t carry on the surname. For the Soldier V, the transformation is complete, as the upcoming fifth installment of the non-signature LeBron basketball shoe adopts ‘Air Max’ in its nomenclature, and for good reason. A quick look at the outsole of the Soldier V and you’ll note that it’s nearly the same as the Soldier IV, but the upper design performs a complete 180-degree turn. Gone is the Flywire-laden in-step strap, but instead a shroud of sorts with an integrated strap system will be used as the primary stabilizing component of the shoe.
The upper will follow in the footsteps of the V1/V2 because two different varietals will be available – one dotted with lined perforations (similar to the Air Jordan 2010 Outdoor) and another version fully equipped with Flywire. You’ll have plenty of colorways to choose from, like the team-based colorways that you’ll see around the NCAA courts and five other basic colorways, with the notables being a ‘South Beach’ inspired colorway, another in ‘Cool Grey’, and one commemorating the great Kay Yow.
