March 11, 2011 BY John Kim
After the successful releases of the Nike Air Force 1 Low and Air Jordan 2011, Jordan Brand started off our week with a look at the Air Jordan VII ‘Year of the Rabbit’ that drew comparisons to the Air Jordan VII ‘Hare’. Other big-time Jordan news included the Air Jordan II Max, which combined an Air Jordan II upper with a 360-degree Max Air unit. But right now, the 360 Max Air bag is synonymous to the Nike LeBron 8, and this week we showed you the SVSM Home and Away PEs that induced dizzying spells and uncontrollable drooling, which was also caused by our preview of the Todd Bratrud x Nike SB Dunk High. The Nike Zoom KD III has kept somewhat quiet this season, but Sneaker News gave you a look at four upcoming colorways as well as a Nike iD design contest that brought some attention to the OKC star. Finishing off basketball news was Gilbert Arenas’ Air Jordan XIII PE that he wore over the previous weekend.
Blake Griffin is embracing his rising star status, as he dressed up as Mars Blackmon in a YouTube video for personal friend Jordan Cameron in a bid to get the USC star Tight End a #1 overall draft choice in the 2011 NFL Draft. Playing dress-up (sort-of) was Michael Jordan, who was spotted with the Varsity Royal colorway of the Jordan CMFT Viz Air 11 and Chris Brown and his new hairdo in some AJ2s. Sneaker News also gave you a look at some upcoming Nike Retros like the Air Griffey Max 2 and Air Max CB34 as well as some new Nike iD options for the Air Max 1, but the newer Nike Basketball joints like the Hyperdunk 2011 and Air Max 360 BB Low also earned a lot of shine. Finally, Sneaker News presented the Air Jordan XVI in our latest Michael Jordan Through The Years feature, focusing on the first Air Jordan since the Air Jordan III not designed by Tinker Hatfield as well as Michael’s return to the NBA hardwood. There’s plenty to catch up on so check out all of this week’s top news in the Sneaker News Weekly Rewind!
