The Nike Air Max 1 has led the way for Swoosh running since its 1987 debut, most recently setting the pace for Nike Sportswear retro runners in terms of adapting to modern fashion trends. The AM1 has appeared in a ton of muted, neutral and tonal colorways during the sneaker game’s post-recession ‘maturation’ and while we’re starting to see considerably more in the high-contrast direction, these manage a nice balance between the two extremes. On paper, their black and purple palette would have you picturing something like the numerous ‘Sacramento Kings’ colorways we’ve seen over the years, but thanks to a burgundy/purple combo plus a light golden shade on the sockliner, the black toe and midsole come off as a more cohesive color range.
