With the advent of lightweight synthetic materials like Flywire, Hyperfuse and SprintSkin, basketball sneakers in particular have seen a marked increase in the prominence of external heel counters to provide support for pivoting and other lateral movements. But high-tech performance basketball kicks aren’t the only sneakers with a distinct heel cup; take for instance the classic adidas Originals Montreal, a shoe named for the 1976 Olympic Games to which the original releases were contemporary. The Montreal has been revamped as part of the James Bond for David Beckham ObyO capsule, but this wheat, black and white edition is straight from Three Stripes, and you’ll be able to grab a pair from select retailers like Size? starting next Friday, September 23rd.
