When you mention the phrase “Patta Air Max 1”, chances are, sneakerheads will see images of the Parra-designed number one release from the Sneaker News Top 30 of 2010. But don’t forget that the Dutch boutique started its onslaught of Nike Air Max 1 collaborations before the turn of the year back in ’09 by coming up with five different colorways in honor of its half-decade anniversary. This December marks lucky number seven, and again Patta has something ready just in time for Christmas, only this time the store is arguably more famous than the shoe instead of the other way around. The Patta x Asics Gel Saga brings a big spotlight to this classic runner just after the OG colorups hit this summer, and just before a new run is set to expand the Onitsuka Tiger’s retro running offerings into the next year. Their 2007 Gel Lyte IIIs can be seen in retrospect as critical to reviving that now well-established cult favorite, but ’09’s Gel Lytespeed bringback hasn’t had the same impact on that model’s frequency and availability; how important will this Patta collaboration prove to the Gel Saga? Click through for a video preview of the next chapter and get ready for the December 22nd release.
