Air Jordan IX ‘Johnny Kilroy’ – Release Info

Air Jordan 9 Retro Johnny Kilroy 1

Who is Johnny Kilroy? This entertaining story arch was developed during Michael’s first retirement – a fictional basketball player that gained some notoriety in the semi-pro basketball circuits for his amazing talents that later scored 79 points in one quarter for the Chicago Bulls. It wasn’t until an expose, led by comedian Steve Martin, revealed that Kilroy was in fact Michael Jordan himself – even confirmed by Alonzo Mourning who played against Kilroy during that game. Unknown to Nike (or even Kilroy), Michael would say ‘enough is enough’ and return to the NBA for real, leaving Johnny Kilroy to be forever forgotten (although it’s clear that not much investigative work had to be done).

In 2012, Jordan Brand will revisit one of the most entertaining stories of the Air Jordan legacy by releasing a special edition colorway if the Air Jordan IX dubbed the ‘Johnny Kilroy’; as seen here in this first teaser shot, the Johnny Kilroy IX features a Black/Metallic Platinum-Gym Red colorway – a similar version to the one worn by Kilroy in those hilarious ads.
