Nike’s venerable Dunk has performed all kinds of duties over its quarter-century of service, everything from the original basketball intent to a streetwear icon, skateboarding mainstay and most recently a golf appropriation. It’s one of Nike Sportswear’s most iconic styles, but only has about half as much history behind it as this classic from the Swoosh’s biggest competitors. Three Stripes’ Samba lowtops got their start seventy-plus years ago as a soccer shoe and they’ve been everywhere as a casual favorite and in recent years as the basis for Dennis Busenitz’ adi-skate signature. And now seven decades and 35 million(!) pairs after its debut for hard football pitches, the adidas Golf Samba offers an entirely different approach to gripping grass. Four different six-cleated ‘Majors’ colorways celebrate the year’s biggest tournaments, starting with the PGA Championship edition that arrives at retailers as the competition strikes its crescendo on Sunday, July 15th.
