This past weekend saw the debut of the new Premier x Nike SB Dunk High “Petoskey”, a sneaker that was first available at their home shop. At this point nobody expects that sort of shoe to stay just at one Nike SB account, as the custom has them becoming a bit more available with a widespread release in the weeks that follow. But over the past couple of years these sort of collab releases have gone even more mainstream in terms of distribution. We’re speaking of their arrival on Nikestore, that most accessible of sneaker-purchasing portals.
In 2013, collaboration productions like the Neckface x Nike SB Blazer, DJ Clark Kent’s “112” pair of Dunk Lows, the “Send Help” sequel, and the Concepts “Ugly Christmas Sweater” all made their way to Nikestore. And in 2014 the Premier x Nike SB Dunk High “Petoskey” is doing the same, with a release set for January 11th. While there certainly is an upside to this leveling of the playing field, there is also something to be said for the diminished level of mystique for these sort of releases. This approach further distances the current sneaker era from the campout days of old; why camp for a release if you know it’s doing to be on Nikestore soon enough? Tell us your stories down in the comments regarding any particularly memorable Nike SB-hunting stories of old and let us know your feelings on Nikestore’s stocking of these premium releases.
