Nike Suing Former Designers For Sharing Secrets With Competitor adidas

Nike Lawsuit Adidas Marc Dolce

Nike is suing the Marc Dolce, Denis Dekovic, and Mark Miner, three former Nike designers that earlier this year announced their plans to move to rival brand adidas. The Beaverton brand alleges that the trio hatched their plan back in April while they were still employed under Nike, shared company secrets with their would-be employer adidas, and pitched the idea of the Brooklyn design studio as a clear plagiarism of Nike’s famed Innovation Kitchen. In addition, Nike alleges that adidas would cover any legal fees that might incur when and if the designers broke contractual non-compete agreements. There’s a lot more to this lawsuit, which which is pitted against the trio for a sum of $10 million. Get more details from Reuters and let us know what you think.

Update: The three designers have put out an official statement. Read below.

“During our entire careers, we have given nothing but our maximum effort. During our time at Nike, we collectively poured in hours, passion and dedication beyond what was asked or expected of us, often prioritizing our jobs over our families. Until the very end, we stayed engaged, loyal and committed. We have a tremendous amount of respect for our colleagues and Nike and would never do anything to harm them.

We find Nike’s allegations hurtful because they are either false or are misleading half-truths. We did not take trade secrets or intellectual property when we departed Nike in September. The athletic footwear industry is fast moving and rapidly changing and, as creative people, we thrive on innovation and freshness. We are looking forward to bringing new and innovative ideas and designs to adidas when our non-competition agreement expires.”
