There’s a Nike void in the red-hot Golden State backcourt. Klay Thompson is set to announce his partnership with Chinese athletic sportswear brand ANTA next week prior to the All-Star Game, according to Warriors beat writer Diamond Leung. The sharpshooting guard joins Rajon Rondo, Kevin Garnett, Chandler Parsons, and Luis Scola as ANTA endorsed athletes in the NBA, and it’s likely that he’ll be paid a larger sum than what the Beaverton brand would’ve ever offered him. Thompson’s stock has been soaring this season and he’ll be setting himself up for some nice endorsement deals in the future, but is signing with a brand that would pretty much alienate him from the domestic sneaker scene the best move, or was the money just too good to pass up? He’s been spotted in ANTA sneakers at practices so this news isn’t quite surprising, but expect the official announcement next week. Stay tuned for more details.
