The photo above recently made headlines when the man behind the camera, Jacobus Rentmeester, sued Nike for violating copyright of the photo and using it beyond what was agreed. What makes this story a bit juicier is that Michael Jordan, who at the time was not under contract with Nike or any brand, was actually wearing a New Balance sneaker in the photoshoot. Jordan would later go on and sign on with Nike to create Jordans, and the rest, of course, is history. Check out these original scans from LIFE magazine below.
