Earlier today, Nike announced that it was making a major cut to their footwear production – about 25% of sneaker styles would be reduced so that the brand could hone in on what exactly sells and what doesn’t. You can read more on that here. Models like the Nike Air Max 1 have been a staple in Nike’s catalog since 1987 when Tinker Hatfield introduced the world to the magic of visible air. But we imagine that the likes of this Nike Air Max 1 Ultra 2.0 GPX won’t make the cut in the future given the slimmed down, nontraditional outsole unit for a modernized fit with crazy graphic capabilities thanks to a synthetic fuse upper. This particular pair is inspired by New York City’s pop-art wave in the 1960s with a Warhol-esque gradient, enlarged polka-dots, and the Statue of Liberty’s neon face on the heel. It’s an interesting pair to say the least, but whether you buy it on June 19th is totally dependent on how loud your style is.
