Yep, this happened. A South-Florida based conman named Justin Jackson was arrested back in May for identity theft, posing as a manager/representative for some of the world’s biggest music stars in order to get freebies from other celebrities and pro athletes. His schtick has reportedly worked on Paul George, VIctor Oladipo, and Richard Hamilton; posing as Adele’s manager, Jackson successfully swindled the three aforementioned players out of sneakers for a bogus charity, and attempted to get shoes from Carmelo Anthony, Russell Westbrook, Bismack Biyombo, and other NBA players. He also posed as the manager of soccer superstar Lionel Messi in an attempt to get free shoes.
According to the Miami Herald, Jackson and his wife were arrested after a sting operated by Miami-Dade police; the two attempted to get free tickets to Kendrick Lamar’s Rolling Loud hip-hop festival on May 6th.
