Last week, Sneaker News reported on a special custom Nike Kyrie 3 that had emerged on social media courtesy of Sneaker Room. Now, one of the designers of that shoe, @beensmove on Instagram, has taken to social media to explain some of its backstory. The custom Kyrie 3 was inspired not only by Kyrie’s mother who had passed from illness but also the designer’s grandmother, who herself passed from breast cancer when he was just 14. Her name was Rose, thus explaining the large gold and red roses displayed on the uppers of both shoes. The colorway also serves as a thanks to moms, grandmothers and motherly women everywhere for their strength and support. The Celtics’ star point guard wore the touching tribute last night in Brooklyn in his return to the court from a facial fracture – a fitting display of resilience considering the inspiration behind his choice of footwear.
