Designer Janis Sne Creates A 3-D Printed Nike ACG Concept Shoe

Designer Janis Sne Creates A 3-D Printed Nike ACG Concept Shoe

After debuting on the Nike Vaporfly Elite Flyprint, Nike’s Flyprint technology—the first 3D-printed textile upper in sneaker history—has provided inspiration for a whole new conceptual project: a 3D printed Nike ACG concept shoe, courtesy of designer Janis Sne

The Amsterdam-based creative is a self-proclaimed admirer of both Nike and ACG/ACRONYM lead designer Errolson Hugh, so he opted to create a concept silhouette entitled “Prototype 01” that borrows from Nike’s futuristic Flyprint technology and Hugh’s stark industrial aesthetic. The shoe’s upper is composed of the aforementioned Flyprint covered with a Gore-Tex membrane that offers a light and breathable fit while still offering exceptional durability and weather resistance. A wide sole offers better balance in rough terrain, and Flywire cables wrap the foot for extra support. For an individual fit, each Prototype 01 sneaker’s Flyprint upper would be printed after scanning each wearer’s feet.

From an aesthetic standpoint, the concept silhouette arrives in both a tonal black and a bold spotted black/white. Both offer a unique lacing system that reaches down low on the midfoot before wrapping around the high sock collar and ending at the heel with a toggle to adjust tightness. Black plastic hits arrive on the heel and forefoot, and ACG branding appears on the throat detailing, as does Gore-Tex branding on the collar.

Neither the concept silhouette or the project as a whole is official, as Sne is not associated with Nike, ACG or Hugh in any way. Nonetheless, it is certainly an interesting, head-turning take on some of the Swoosh’s latest and greatest technologies.
