LeBron James is typically in the news for his heroic accomplishments on the basketball court, but lately The King has found himself firmly in the headlines again for another reason that’s equally—if not more—impressive than his on-court accomplishments: the opening of his new I Promise school this week.
A public school in James’s hometown of Akron funded by the LeBron James Family Foundation, the I Promise School aims to assist Akron’s most challenged students with their education as well as providing support to their parents. The school’s architecture features many unique design points, like hand-painted murals and pictures of LeBron with children at his foundation events, but the most interesting part is undeniably the 114 pairs of game-worn sneakers, from LeBron 15s to models from the Soldier line and more on display at the entrance. The rare kicks are for more than just show however: each pair will be sold by Upper Deck, and all proceeds will help fund both the school’s operations and the LeBron James Family Foundation. The purchaser will also receive the special honor of having their name engraved on the school’s wall, becoming a permanent part of “I Promise” history. Enjoy a look at selections from the wide swath of kingly kicks below, and keep it locked right here for any and all LeBron updates.
