After a collaboration earlier this spring, adidas Originals and Japan’s United Arrows & Sons are back again with their second co-branded capsule collection of the year. This time, the’ve enlisted legendary graffiti artist WANTO to continue the first collection’s theme of letting a renowned Japanese artist re-work the iconic trefoil logo. WANTO’s perceptible touch via the re-worked trefoil that appears on the collection’s shoes and apparel connects the long-standing relationships adidas has had with both hip-hop and graffiti culture together, with just enough of a DIY-style feel for a unique flair.
The collection’s footwear consists of two silhouettes: an Ultra Star and a Rivalry Low. The former takes the classic adidas Superstar‘s construction and tweaks it for the modern day, adding a bone colored high-top Primeknit sock construction and Boost cushioning, while leaving the throat, lacing system, and toe cap from the original Superstar intact. Snakeskin print appears on the three stripe detailing and heel tab, WANTO’s hand-scrawled logo arrives in white and red on the collar as well as on the heel, and tan canvas on the midfoot provides a striking contrast with the bone Primeknit used on the back half of the upper. The Rivalry Low opts for a more retro feel with a rich black leather used for the upper, while the same snakeskin print from the Ultra Star adorns the three stripe graphic and the bottom of the throat. WANTO’s logo appears again on the tongue and heel, and a two-tone black and bone midsole/outsole with contrast stitching complete the look. The collection also boasts a swath of co-branded classic hip-hop style pieces like a varsity jacket, tracksuit, and all-over print crewneck.
Enjoy a full look at the new shoes and apparel below, and expect the whole collection to arrive on adidas.com and at authorized adidas stockists August 25th.
