Jordan Brand Unveils The Carmelo Anthony x Rag & Bone Capsule

Since their first meeting in New York City close to a decade ago, NBA Superstar Carmelo Anthony and Rag & Bone Co-Founder and CEO Marcus Wainwright have cultivated and unexpected friendship that is fundamentally rooted in their love for fashion. The two have collaborated with one another in the past, as Melo has starred in a bevy of R&B campaigns, but now their professional relationship has reached an apex with an upcoming co-branded Jordan Brand capsule. Opting to take an unconventional approach to this project, Wainwright chose the Air Jordan 20 as the collection’s hero, a silhouette that Melo and Wainwright both agree is a vastly underrated part of Jumpman lore.

“I think that it was a bit ahead of its time, but the shoe was always cool,” Melo said. “This is a shoe I liked when I saw it, but it didn’t get its fair moment. I wanted to bring it back, rework it and re-introduce it to the market.”

Featuring a decidedly militaristic aesthetic, the flight jacket-style designs achieve the ideal of sticking to Rag & Bone’s signature design styling, while managing to make it modern and relevant in today’s times. Enter Flyknit, Nike’s cutting edge mesh technology that has slowly been making its way through Jordan Brand’s archive, as we have already seen it adorn the Jordan 1 and the Jordan 3 in the past. Still featuring the unique – and recognizable – construction of the 20, this modernized take features upgrades by way of removable adhesive branding patches, a much higher – and fully connected – sock collar, and a rugged sole unit. Alongside a set of matching apparel, the Carmelo Anthony x Rag & Bone x Air Jordan 20 Flyknit capsule is slated to begin touching down at select retailers on September 27th.
