Over the sixteen years that LeBron James has been the premier Nike Basketball signature athlete, his longstanding line of self-named sneakers has been responsible for a bevy of enviable special colorways. From the LeBron 7 “Hardwood Classics” PEs, to the LeBron 8 “South Beach”, to the LeBron 3 “Superman” sample, the King of the Association is responsible for a number of “grail” status basketball shoes. Recently, the NBA’s official sneaker champ PJ Tucker laced up a pair of the aforementioned Superman-colored 3s in an NBA game in Cleveland against James’ former team, bringing the heroic sneakers back into the spotlight. Either Tucker was tipped off by one of his Beaverton connects, or he is just a touch clairvoyant, because as its turns out a new version of the LeBron 16 is in the works that heavily draws inspiration from this red, blue, and yellow sample from ’06. Dressed in that same color combination made famous by Clark Kent’s alter ego, the shoe takes on the silhouette of the 16, but borrows the throat logo and patent leather overlays from LBJ’s third signature sneaker. Equipped with the on-court innovations that make James’ current kicks one of the more formidable pieces of basketball footwear money can buy, its aesthetic harkens back to one of the more noteworthy exploits from the esteemed pairing between the Chosen One and the Swoosh. No word regarding the LeBron 16 “Superman”‘s release has been reported just yet, but grab a first look here and stay tuned for updates.
Update: The Nike LeBron 16 “SuperBron” will also release on the morning of 12/26 on SNKRS, House of Hoops online, in-stores, and at the House of Hoops mobile truck activation in LA.
