At the apex of the high-top basketball shoe era of the 1980s, adidas introduced one of the more stylish models into the market with the Rivalry Hi. With its high ankle cut, rising tongue, and classic adidas styling, this model was a fixture on the streets all while being associated with rising superstar big-man Patrick Ewing. We’ve learned late in 2018 that the Rivalry Hi was set to return in full force, complete with the original full-grain leather construction, perforated panels, and padded ankles, and this February 8th, the signature ‘Knicks’ themed colorway is indeed set to return to shelves at a pleasing $110 pricepoint.
The continue the buzz around its return, adidas Originals opened the Rivalry Gallery in SoHo, NYC, a pop-up space that featured a curated selection of hoops-themed art selected by Eric Emanuel. In addition to the visual exhibition was a display of an actual OG pair of the iconic shoe alongside the 2019 re-issue. A Thursday evening launch party welcomed friends of the brand, select media, and adidas athletes such as Kristaps Porzingis and Alonzo Trier to check out the space, while the public were given freedom to see it with their own eyes on Friday from noon to 5PM EST.
See some select snaps from the event and gallery below, and stay tuned for the official release on Friday, February 8th.
