Often walking the line between minimalism and more outlandish, avant-garde designs, Rei Kawakubo’s many diffusion lines amongst the ever-branching Comme des Garcons institution continue to surprise with their own individual sneaker collaborations: SHIRT quite frequently teams up with streetwear staple Supreme for pattern-worked Vans, Play paints its toony eyed hearts atop the canvas of Converse Chucks, and now HOMME brings its own stripped back methodology along the characteristic materials of New Balance’s 997S.
While modifications are surely light atop the modified classic, two arrive in versatile hues of either a dark grey or black with them swapping between sultry suedes and luxurious leathers, respectively. Perforated toe boxes forgo the typical mesh unders though perforations add that same iconic likeness; overlaid molds as well as reflective “N” logos are untransformed from previous general releases, though the branded CDG insole makes for a subtle nod to the giant high fashion conglomerate. Atop the more aggressive sole — here painted in a singular white with no color blocked toning — the pairs culminate into a collaboration refreshing in their simplicity. Be sure to grab a detailed look at both forthcoming colorways below and grab them now at the retailers listed below.
