New Balance, with 2020 plans just around the corner, has already prepared more than a few releases for their classics, likely following the lead of Aime Leon Dore and their work with the once shelved 990v2. Further digging through their archive, the Boston institution is finally bringing out the staple 992 once again, a model oft-overshadowed by the adjacent 991 and 993 in recent months. From colorful re-dos to their signature versatile tooling, the upcoming launch has it all, paving the way for much more throughout the year with the likely inclusion of a few noteworthy collaborations.
Among the total three, the grey pair certainly needs no introduction, but its accompaniments — dressed in two distinct variations of multi-color — are much newer offerings that do more in the way of vibrant appearances. The first, opting almost entirely for cool tones, takes the pig suede and dyes it with a duo of blues, one much more saturated and the other somewhat pastel, while mesh accents and the “N” logo favor a smooth salmon. Elsewhere, striped prints find seat just towards the heel, spelling out a preppy inspiration in departure to the other offering’s more sportswear-influenced ethos. This, with its mudguards painted bright orange and upper halves an almost ocean-like display, is given sparing details of dark green towards the lace unit and sultry purples exclusively on the tread.
