Despite the imagination of Junya Watanabe‘s mainline offerings, his footwear collaborations often take a much more minimal approach, following closely behind CDG Black’s approach to colorways as he dresses the New Balance 1500 in two monochromatic toolings. The first, which triples up the shade to a stealthy degree, leaves absolutely zero room for color, outfitting a mix of quality suede and leather fabrications in an assortment of dark to darker pigments. “N” logos along the side, the “1500” stamp towards the rear, and even the typical logo hits along the tongue are all given matching thread, though the text placements on the insole do divert by way of white font. Its accompaniment, however, stands out by a small margin, taking on its fair share of neutrals though in a much more interesting color blocking of white and grey paneling. Top lines as well as the profile base opt for the latter in pig suede and mesh, respectively, while smooth hits of white layer underneath the heel counter of matte finish, one that extends towards the rest of the lower half save for the midsole unit.
