Michael Le WTAPS‘ return to the Vans collaborative family was a tearful reunion marked by personal essay, Tetsu Nishiyama himself proclaiming that he’s “still in love with Waffles.” And now, not too long shy of their past capsule, the two are quickly offering up a striking homage to the past: a Sk8-Hi and Era set replete with the ever-iconic and instantly recognizable crossbones motif.
An echo of the iterations before it, the SK8-Hi dresses simply in only two tones, its suede upper marked with either black or orange in near entirety. While the Jazz Stripes on each differ in black and white leather, respectively, the accents embellished adjacent are near identical. The core embroideries dress in close perpetuity along the midpanel, clad in white in match of the midsole below as well as the Vans insignia that stamps the tongue. What’s more, the Japanese label signs off even further atop the heel counter as “WTVUA” threads in bold. The Eras then expand in complement, translating almost every one of the aforementioned details over to the lower profile silhouette.
