Michael Le Teased for the better part of the last half year, Virgil Abloh‘s upcoming Off-White x Nike Rubber Dunk is set to arrive first thing October as a three-prong regional exclusive. Announced officially earlier this morning, the pack — which effectively pays homage to late 90s/early 2000s palettes and silhouettes — will bring the University Blue colorway to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Arguably the designer’s most unique release yet, the Rubber Dunk merges elements from the iconic Pegasus line as well as the now overwhelmingly popular Dunk. The upper reaps the benefits of early design language as its extra overlays, offsets, and printing quickly remind of the era that inspired it; hits of Off-White’s signature motifs then layer atop modernity as orange tabs, oversized zip-ties, and text-adorned laces dress just adjacent. “The shoe is about incorporating past ideas in a new era,” Abloh states. Silver metallic paneling and complementing mesh bases then run replete throughout the rest of the construction while the rubber-outlined swoosh, surrounding piping, and molds around the exposed air unit contrast in the titular University Blue. Gum bottoms then finish below, adding further nod to the 2000s schemes of which the entire shoe made use.
