Hot off the heels of their recent Jordan Brand capsule, Union is quick to head only a few doors over as they link up with Converse to celebrate the artistry of New York based interior designer Sheila Bridges.
Set forth atop the Chuck Taylor, the collaboration aims to mimic Bridges’ signature touch as it fully adorns with her visually rich “Harlem Toile,” a wallpaper-esque artwork that lenses the culturally significant neighborhood through a filter of Victorian style. The original toile is repurposed for the canvas of the footwear silhouette, its print deep in color and texturally reminiscent of wallcoverings (the print’s intended medium). The characters atop, which stand against pastoral greenery, depict the mundane — jumping rope, playing basketball, dancing, picnics, etc. — while simultaneously commenting on the stereotypes that are, as Bridges puts it, “deeply woven into the African American experience.”
Paired with a set of apparel, the Chuck Taylors will soon be available at Converse.com and select retailers on October 13th.
In other news, a Sean Cliver Dunk Low is in the works.
