adidas is getting in on the retro hoops fun by looking back at one of its most popular signature lines yet – the TMAC for Hall-of-Famer Tracy McGrady. Noted for its simplicity, the T-MAC legacy was remembered for its clean leather uppers, abstract placement of stripes, and possibly one of the best player logos in basketball shoe history. It wasn’t until the T-Mac 4 that adidas insert some innovative developments, introducing an external lockdown mechanism at the heel.
This February, the T-Mac 2 will make a come-back in original Orlando Magic colors as well as some new flavors, bring us back to an era when adidas arguably had a more potent athlete line-up than Nike did. Seen here via official images, adidas sticks with the same leather uppers, royal blue piping and accents, and interior bootie structure for lock-down. These days, basketball shoes are far less bulkier and leather-like materials are spurned in favor of more lightweight synthetics, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the T-Mac 2 ended up making some on-feet appearances in today’s NBA.
Expect the adidas T-Mac 2 Restomod on February 1st at adidas retailers nationwide.
