Michael Le Wacko Maria has long relied on animal prints for their past few footwear collaborations. With Nike as well as Converse, the Japanese label has preferred to make use of leopard patterns, dressing both the Janoski and the Chuck 70 as such. But in 2021, as they rejoin Vans for the first time in a while, we’re to see three fresh takes on the Authentic LX, each laden with vinyl records.
At their heart, Wacko Maria is Americana-inspired. Everything prominent throughout the era is free game, with their mainline pieces often delving into classic militaria, rockabilly, and the like. Here, via the uppers of the Authentic LX, the brand is celebrating analog sound, the silhouette’s Pink, Baby Blue, and Classic White mid-panels covered with polished records. Elsewhere, though, the construction is rather straightforward as all three finish with black suede toes, white laces, white stitching, and standard, foxing-adorned midsoles.
