Michael Le In the months since the Forum Hi‘s return, adidas has commanded an audience with well-chosen collaborations and a number of faithful, retro-inspired colorways. But lately, things have taken a turn towards the eccentric, the model now undergoing quite a few changes to its construction and features. And this version by Y-3 — the sub-label ostensibly headed by Yohji Yamamoto — is its most dramatic transformation yet.
But when I say dramatic, I’m mostly referring to the details themselves. The colorway is certainly anything but, aligning with the high fashion component’s penchant for Triple Black. Even the branding follows suit as it hits tongue and the hook-and-loop strap that plays off the original’s fastener. And while the rest of the paneling may be somewhat true to the standard, its side is lacking in its use of the Three Stripes. This is a result of the added zipper that wraps from the lateral profile up to the medial collar.
Finished with suede linings, this luxurious take on the Forum is due to release at select retailers and adidas.com/y-3 on April 7th.
In a similar vein, the adidas Triple PlatForum Hi adds quite a few inches.
