When it comes to the adidas Superstar, it feels like we’ve seen it all—while not at all. Despite the incredible amount of inventive arrangements that had already surfaced, the 1969 classic somehow continues to be able to test its creativity with new releases. For two upcoming designs, the Three Stripes uses bold, suede mudguards to amp up an otherwise simple body.
Both options consist of smooth white leather bases and black branded heel tabs, aligning with the Superstar’s style conventions. However, they take a turn when it comes to the tongue, which sees branding printed over a stitched leather overlay, rather than the typical logo printed directly on the tongue with gold foil details. The Superstar text on the lateral side is also void of gold foiling, sticking to black as its font color. Additionally, the typically black side stripes have also been ditched for plain white ones. But the most prominent feature of both silhouettes is the suede mudguard that each pair sports. These overlays wrap around the entirety of the model, stopping at the shell toe and intercepted by the side stripes. Available in Hazy Yellow and Bright Blue, they add a fun pop of color that is very much appropriate for the spring and summer seasons.
