Jasmine Tang By adding a handful of wavy overlays to a classic heritage style, the New Balance 57/40 acts as a bold ’80s-meets-’90s take on the New Balance 574. The lifestyle silhouette will soon be available in a “Varsity Green” and “Team Gold” fitting that uses a bright color scheme reminiscent of ’90s trends.
For its mesh uppers, the toe and collar see a purple while hot pink is used mid-panel. These uppers are obstructed by haphazardly-shaped suede overlays in a retro mix of hues. The aforementioned pink lands on the overlay highlighting the toebox. Meanwhile, a teal “Varsity Green” shade is applied to the suede elements at the forefoot and hindfoot. Lacestays and the heel also receive the suede treatment but in “Team Gold.” Black, oversized “N” logos on the sides are used to brand the model, as well as the simple NB logo on the tongue label. Purple and white rubber overlays are placed above the midsole to complete the vibrant design, reprising the wavy design lines seen throughout the style.
