Despite the Nike Zoom Freak line’s association with Giannis Antetokounmpo, it was no other than teammate P.J. Tucker who debuted the Nike Zoom Freak 3 on court. Although an orange colorway was seen on the Bucks player in Atlanta, a black and purple “Project 34” offering will also be included in the performance sneaker’s first official drop, and unfortunately it will be quite a while until Giannis sports the Freak 3 on court after suffering a terrible injury during Game 4.
The Zoom Freak 3 serves to support athletes through the dynamic angles that come with maneuvering during basketball. A contoured design was the Nike design team’s goal, as they wanted the model to fit the way Giannis transitions from step to step. This particular arrangement flaunts a flexible, engineered black upper with white reverse Swooshes near the ankle. A dark purple strap with a raised stripe design is located midfoot for a locked-in fit and to ensure that Giannis’s center of gravity won’t slide over the footbed. As for the sole unit, the pair opts for a white midsole that sees a purple Zoom Air-branded overlay. Two Zoom Air units sit under the ball of the foot, which helps absorb energy and provide responsiveness. A black outsole rounds out the look, which contains a swirled design inspired by one of Nike basketball’s most recognizable traction patterns.
Take a closer look at the Zoom Freak 3 below, which will release globally on July 1 in adult, Grade School, and Pre-School sizes.
