Besides postponing the event and enforcing restrictions on spectators due to COVID-19, the Tokyo Olympics differs from previously-held games by debuting five new sports—one of them being skateboarding. With the sport reaching an international stage, perhaps footwear brands will expand their efforts in embracing the skate community and promoting the sport’s future. adidas is already taking initiative as its skateboarding sub-brand recruits Pro team rider Diego Nájera to deliver the first-ever skate rendition of the classic adidas Forum 84.
Although the adidas Forum is a basketball-rooted silhouette, Diego Nájera’s passion for car customization and tuner culture drives him to reimagine the model for skateboarding. The premium grain leather upper, suede eyestays, and mesh panels exhibit a minimalist white and grey color palette to allow for the hits of “Signal Cyan” to pop. A reference to the City of Angels where Diego is from, the aforementioned bright blue is applied to the model’s side stripes, branding on the tongue and ankle strap, and the outsole. The translucent rubber outsole opts for an “icy” look that reveals Diego’s name in cursive—a final, personal touch to the skate-ready design.
Check out the official imagery of the adidas Forum 84 ADV below, which will hit adidas.com on July 24th with a price tag of $110.
