Engineered Garments, designed by now-retired marathoner Daiki Suzuki, reunites with HOKA ONE ONE today for a four-part series of Bondi Ls.
Moving away from the robust utility of their Tor Low, the duo are exploring the idea of a “formal running shoe.” To do this, Suzuki has implemented past motifs, repurposing the animal-inspired textures of capsules prior to create four different interpretations of the Bondi L. Two, both the Black and Simply Taupe colorways, offer cow hair overlays alongside premium suede panels, while the Sand and Brown iterations deviate with bold leopard and croc print, respectively.
“For this design, I wanted to merge some of the staple elements of past Engineered Garments’ shoe and boot collaborations into a sneaker. With the functionality and comfort of the Bondi L, I found it to be an open canvas and the perfect silhouette for this project,” said founder Daiki Suzuki.
“I enjoyed the idea of utilizing prints like leopard and crocodile and adding texture by materializing them with calf hair and suede. These combinations are seen in some of our previous collaborations, now in a stylish performance-driven sneaker.”
Enjoy a closer look at the capsule below. All four colorways are available now, August 12th, at Nepenthes stores, with a global launch to arrive shortly after on August 19th.
In other news, the New Balance XC-72 is about to take over the Fall.
