Nike Explores The Idea Of “Siempre Familia” With Their Upcoming Día De Muertos Collection

Since last year, Nike has used their Día de Muertos collection to celebrate family, lensing their product through time-held traditions and cultural references. 2021 further fosters these ideas to create some of the most colorful, graphically intense offerings to date.

Both the Air Force 1 and Air Jordan 1 Mid take the helm, both a vibrant nod to “Mictlán,” the nine levels of the underworld through which the souls of the dead must cross. This creates a rather symbolic array of aesthetics with which the two silhouettes make total use of. Nike’s hero is sculpted meticulously throughout its orange overlays, matching the motifs that embroider the Swoosh adjacent. Jordan Brand’s interpretation takes a classic black and red backdrops and applies jaguar prints, arrow-akin checks, and teeth atop.

Apparel is to arrive alongside, each a mosaic of “Mictlán” influence. Xolo dogs, bones, and skulls are rife throughout, providing the perfect complement to the aforementioned shoes.

The 2021 Día de Muertos hits Nike SNKRS and the Nike App in Mexico on October 24th and October 26th, respectively. A global launch will follow on October 29th.
