Michael Le Built atop an icon-rich history, the Jumpman often relies on their past, bringing back releases that first debuted in the late 80s or 90s. But more recently, the brand’s taken a slightly different approach as they’ve added twists to many a classic. Here, the Air Jordan 12 “Royalty” provides the perfect example of this, its colorway a subtle riff on the “Taxi.”
Following in its inspiration’s footsteps, the “Royalty” starts out much the same way. Black is used heavily across the bottom half, darkening both the textured mudguard as well as most of the tooling farther below. But adjacent, the “JUMPMAN” branded tab as well as the instep’s branded embroidery are cast in a luxurious gold finish, subverting the original while also amplifying its similarly-done hardware. Finally, white neutrals round out the package, dressing from the quilted side panels through the tongue.
