Unquestionably overshadowed by split-tongue predecessors, the ASICS GEL-Kayano 14 has received notable attention over the last few years thanks to thoughtful collaborations. For its latest ensemble, the silhouette has indulged in a “Black” and “Birch” colorway, with the latter tone taking over much of the forefoot, prompting a “Birch Toe” moniker.
Inspired by Japanese fashion and cozy living, the newly-surfaced ASICS proposition boasts an upper reworked with oily suedes, waxed canvas and undid hemp materials for a sophisticated presentation. As with the Japanese idea of monozukuri, the recently-launched pair offers a simplistic color palette and natural aesthetic manufactured with pride. Detailing on the spine deviates from the monochromatic arrangement in favor of rich burgundy and navy. Underfoot, the performance-oriented tooling reverts to the titular “Birch” hue and maintains its standard build, featuring GEL® technology all-throughout and a semi-translucent TRUSSTIC™ support component at the center of the outsole.
