In 1973, Nike successfully brought to market the Waffle Trainer, one of the brand’s first major innovations. If not for Bill Bowerman and the humble waffle iron, the silhouette would have never came to be — and thus, the Swoosh would have never been the same. Since its debut, the shoe’s concept has undergone an array of interpretations, changing hands to both sacai and UNDERCOVER while also appearing in new, inline make-ups. And later this year, yet another of the latter is joining the fray. Behold, the Waffle Debut.
Next to the Waffle One, the Waffle Debut bears a more contemporary design, whose materials are much more reminiscent of the original Waffle Trainer. Nylons build out the base in a similar fashion, while suedes overlay atop the rear and fore. Adjacent, the leather eye stays add a slight deviation in tandem with the oversized Swoosh, a fixture that’s stitched into the heel’s accentuated pull tab. The sole is yet another distinct feature, its wedged midsole not too unlike the Pegasus and similar runners.
For a detailed look at this brand new offering, official images of 2 men’s and 4 women’s colorways have been added below. A release should be hitting Nike.com and select retailers within the coming months.
In other news, the Air Jordan 4 Red Thunder is releasing this Saturday.
