Over the course of a couple of years, “Salehe Bembury” has become a household name within the world of footwear. Stints with New Balance have helped garner him a fanbase among diehard sneaker consumers, while his Croc Pollex Clog collaboration has widened the scope of his reach to include even the most casual of consumers.
Although Crocs has been enjoying massive success over the last decade, the brand’s partnership with the New York City-native has helped cement it within the world of savvy consumer shoes. Originally designed for slippery boat decks, Crocs’ Clog silhouette has enjoyed a life outside of the water and on city streets, restaurant kitchens and cozy homes. Bembury’s Pollex makeover, however, has positioned the laceless model in the great outdoors, featuring a complex aesthetic informed by the Los Angeles-based designer’s own fingerprint. Reinforced toe sections, fabric lockdown straps, plastic molded fasteners and reliable traction underfoot deliver a refreshing update to a silhouette that’s historically been ridiculed by those “in-the-know.” A clean, understated “Stratus” color takes over one of the next Salehe Bembury Crocs propositions, which will surely be a hit for the summer.
